You probably heard someone say there is an app for that. This adage is true when it comes to travel apps. Do you want to know the best places to eat? There is an app for that. Do you want something translated into English? There is an app for that. Do you need a last minute hotel? You guessed it, there is an app for that.
There are hundreds if not thousands of travel related apps. In this post, I have tried to put a variety of travel apps that can help you before you hit the road and others that will help you while you are on your trip.
I am sure that many of you have some travel apps that you love to use. Hopefully, I show you one that can come in handy while you travel. If you are new to the app game, then I hope you find a few that you can use when you go on your next adventure.
1. EatWith

TripAdvisor is one of my favorite travel apps. It is a comprehensive travel app that offers reviews, ratings and recommendations for hotels, restaurants and attractions. On the app you will find millions of reviews and photos. The site helps you make informed decisions while you are on the road.
4. XE Currency
XE Currency is a currency conversion app that offers live exchange rates and historical charts. This app is particularly useful for travelers who are traveling internationally and need to convert currencies.
5. Hostelworld
Hostelworld helps budget conscious travelers find affordable hostel accommodations around the world. The app has reviews and ratings to help you choose the best option. This is a great option if you are backpackering or if you are traveling solo.
6. Kayak
Kayak is a popular app that helps you find the best deals on flights, hotels, and rental cars. The app has a price alert feature that notifies users when prices drop. This app is a great tool for budget conscious travelers looking to save money on their trips.
7. Viator

The app also offers reviews, photos and maps.
8. Google Maps
Who hasn’t used Google Maps? If you haven’t, it offers real time navigation and directions, making it easy to find your way around a new city without spending money on taxis or other transportation. It has some helpful features, including transit directions and local recommendations.
9. Splitwise
If you are traveling with a group, Splitwise is a great app to have. The app helps travelers split expenses with friends or family members. This app keeps track of who owes what and reduces the hassle of managing shared expenses.
10. LikeALocal

Priority Pass gives you access to more than 1,300 airport lounges worldwide. There are several credit cards, such as The American Exress Platnium card, Capital One Venture X, and Chase Sapphire Reserve to name a few.
If you don’t have a credit card, you will need to pay an annual fee to be a member. There are a number of tiers and depending on what tier you have you will have to pay a fee to get in.
15. Hopper
Hopper is a flight booking app that predicts future flight prices, helping you find the best deals on flights. The app has a user friendly interface and has helpful notifications. It is a great app to find the best flight deal.
16. Uber
Uber is a ride sharing app that offers affordable and convenient transportation in cities around the world. The app will show you what the cost of the fare will be before you select it. Plus, you can pay for the fare right over the app.
17. Roadtrippers
I bet you can’t guess what kind of travel this app is geared towards. As you can imagine, Roadtrippers helps you plan road trips, with helpful features like suggested routes, popular attractions, and local recommendations. There is a user-friendly interface along with customizable itineraries.
18. Omio
If you are looking to travel by train, bus, or plane, Omio is a great app to have. The app allows you to find the best deals on trains, buses, and flights in Europe and North America. The app has a variety of transportation options and helpful search filters.
19. Booking.com
Who hasn’t seen one of the Booking.com commercials? As you probably know, the app offers discounted rates on hotels, apartments, and vacation rentals around the world. You can also book rental cars, flights and even packaged trips. It is a go to site for many people.
20. PackPoint
Do you have trouble deciding what to pack for your trip? Did you know there is an app for that? I couldn’t resist. PackPoint is a packing list app that helps travelers pack efficiently and avoid overpacking. The app has customizable packing lists based on your destination, activities, and the weather.
21. Airbnb
If hotels are not your thing, then getting an Airbnb might be the right move for you. You can book a room at someone’s home, an apartment, or even a whole house. There are many options to pick from and they can be cheaper than getting a hotel.
22. HotelTonight
If you are not much of a planner or if you like to go places on the spur of the moment, the HotelTonight app will be your friend. The app offers last minute hotel deals at discounted rates and can be used in the Americas, Europe, Japan and Australia.
23. Google Translate
Google Translate is a language translation app that allows users to translate text and speech from one language to another. The app supports over 100 languages and provides translation services for text, voice, and even images. Users can type in or speak a phrase in one language and the app will instantly translate it.
24. Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing is a great app if you are a little more on the adventurous side. The app is a social networking app that connects travelers with local hosts who are willing to offer them a place to stay for free. You can create a profile, search for hosts in your desired destination, and request to stay with them for a few nights.
25. LuckyTrip

26. WhatsApp

27. Google Maps

You can make restaurant reservations and write reviews for restaurants, shops and attractions. One of the best features is that you can download maps to your phone. You can still use them even if you have no internet access that way.
28. AllTrails
AllTrails is a great app if you are looking to do some hiking on your trip. The app has more than 350,000 curated trails that you can access. The hikes aren’t just back country hikes but the app also includes city walks that you can enjoy.
You can see photos, updated weather predictions and detailed information about different routes and people’s reviews. They offer a $29.99 paid version that offers offline maps and more.
29. Netflix
Netflix is technically not a travel app but it can really help make a long flight seem shorter. It can also entertain the kids while on a long drive. You can download your favorite shows and movies to your phone or device.
Make sure that you are connected to wifi when you go to download your shows. They have different plans and pricing options to choose from.
30. Spotify
Spotify like Netflix isn’t techinally a travel app but like Netflix it can help pass the time you while you are traveling. You can listen to your favorite music, podcast, and more.
Spotify’s premium plans allow you to download all of your music and more on your phone. So, you don’t have to be connected to the internet to use the app.
