I’ve lived in the heart of Ohio’s Amish Country for over 55 years, and spent 30 of those years teaching in the local school system. When visitors ask me where to eat, this is the exact list I give them.
Nearly 4 million people visit Amish Country every year, and finding a great meal shouldn’t be a guessing game based on a generic list from someone who’s never set foot here.
Every restaurant on this list is one I’ve personally eaten at, often multiple times with family, coworkers, and friends over the years. I’ve watched restaurants come and go in this community for decades. The ones below have earned their spots through consistently great food and real local reputations, not just good reviews on a particular day.
With an average Google rating of 4.66 out of 5 across all ten spots, you’re not going to go wrong with any of them.
Whether you’re coming for traditional Amish comfort food, a creative bistro experience, or just the best donut you’ve ever had in your life, this list has you covered.

The 10 Best Restaurants in Amish Country Ohio You Must Visit

1. Park Street Pizza (sugarcreek, Ohio)
Best for: Pizza lovers, families, casual dining, visitors who want something different than traditional Amish food
When you think of Amish country you probably don’t think of pizza but Park Street Pizza which is located in Sugarcreek is one of the best pizza shops around.
Rocky and Courtney Shanower started the restaurant in 2003. They have been located at different locations around town but now are located right off SR 39/Dover Rd.
Park Street teams with local farmers to have the freshest ingredients possible to put onto their pizzas. Because of that they have seasonal options throughout the year.
They offer many different types of signature pizzas to pick from. If none of the signature pizzas seem to fit your taste, you can create your own pizza. I am partial to creating my own BBQ chicken pizza.
They have a variety of salads, sandwiches, wings, desserts and shareables, such as cheesy bread sticks which are a family favorite. No matter what you choose you are not going to go wrong.

2. Boyd and Wurthmann (Berlin, Ohio)
Best for: First time visitors, traditional Amish comfort food, experiencing a true local institution
Everywhere you travel around the country, when you go into a town you will find a restaurant where the locals eat. This applies to Boyd and Wurthmann.
The restaurant is located in downtown Berlin. It was originally a market that transitioned into a restaurant. Boyd and Wurthmann is not the largest in size. It has 22 tables, 5 booths, one round table and a bar area with 9 seats. You will usually find a line out the door.
Even though there is a line out the door many times, that does not mean that you should not make the effort to eat at the restaurant. The restaurant has a certain charm to it. It opened up 75 years ago and the restaurant has not changed that much adding to its charm.
You can expect large portions when you visit Boyd and Wurthmann. Some of their best dishes include: roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy, meatloaf, fried chicken and biscuits and gravy for breakfast.
My favorite dishes are the french toast for breakfast and the fried chicken for dinner. Again, you can’t go wrong with whatever you get to eat.
If you want a restaurant that is all shiny and new then Boyd and Wurthmann is not for you. If you are looking for great food, then Boyd and Wurthmann is worth a visit.

3. Rebecca’s Bistro (Walnut Creek, Ohio)
Best for: Breakfast and lunch, couples, a relaxed local atmosphere, visitors who want to eat where the locals eat in Walnut Creek
If Boyd and Wurthmann is the restaurant that locals from around Berlin are eating at then Rebecca’s is the restaurant that locals around Walnut Creek are going for a great meal.
The restaurant is located in an old log cabin that has had a few additions added onto over the years. It has an inside porch area where people can eat along with an outside area that can be used during the warmer months.
They are open for breakfast and lunch. Depending when you get to the restaurant, you may have to wait a little while to get a seat. It truly is a popular spot.
They have many wonderful dishes for breakfast. Personally, I am partial to the French toast and a slice of ham. The bread they use for the French Toast is wonderful and the ham is huge and tasty.
On the lunch menu, you’ll find sandwiches, quiche, salads, soups, sides, and desserts. Some dishes you may want to try out for lunch include the grilled cheese, the cuban, chicken salad sandwich and bistro burger, which I think is fantastic.
Rebecca’s also offers hot and cold speciality drinks. My one daughter says that vanilla chai tea is one of her favorites.

4. Dutch Valley/Der Dutchman/Farmstead (Various towns)
Best for: Families, large groups, the full Amish buffet experience, visitors who want to try a little bit of everything
You may be wondering why I listed three restaurants together. That is a good question. The reason that I did that is because these three restaurants are owned by the same corporation.
Each restaurant has a few things that are different from each other but overall they are pretty much the same place in my opinion. Der Dutchman is located in Walnut Creek. Dutch Valley is located in Sugarcreek and Farmstead can be found in Berlin.
Dutch Valley and Der Dutchman serve breakfast every day that they are open. Farmstead on the other hand is only open for breakfast on Fridays and Saturdays.
All 3 restaurants have an all you can eat breakfast buffet. The breakfast buffets have fried mush, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, potatoes, fruit slush, pastries and much more.
Each restaurant has a dinner buffet. The dinner buffets have various meats, green beans, noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, creamed corn along with various desserts. They also have a full salad bar that comes with the buffet.
I have eaten at all 3 dinner and breakfast buffets many times. Truthfully, you can’t go wrong with any of the buffets.
If you don’t want the buffet, you can order individual meals for breakfast and lunch/dinner. Each restaurant also has family style meals that you can order for the dining room as well as take out.
If you still have room to eat after a meal, they have many great pies and other desserts to pick from. Out of the three restaurants I am partial to Dutch Valley since that is where I ate the most while growing up. Their broasted and grilled chicken are both very tasty.
With that being said, when it comes to the peanut butter pie at each of the restaurants Der Dutchman has the best. No matter what restaurant you go to, you are not going to walk away hungry.

5. Blue Moon Bistro (holmesville, Ohio)
Best for: Adventurous eaters, unique and creative dishes, date night, visitors who want something unexpected in Amish Country
The Blue Moon Bistro can be found in Holmesville which is located between Millersburg and Wooster on SR 83. The bistro opened in 2021.
The bistro serves breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday. One thing that you won’t do when eating at the Blue Moon Bistro is walk away hungry since they serve large portions.
Known for its eclectic menu, this bistro offers a creative twist on traditional American fare. A standout breakfast option is the pancake wrap, which features an oversized pancake rolled around classic breakfast ingredients.
For lunch or dinner you can order the Blue Moon Donut Burger. The fresh burger is made with bacon, American Cheese, and is served between a grilled glazed donut. If you are in the mood for an appetizer they have Disco Fries which are house fries topped with house gravy and cheddar jack cheese.
Blue Moon Bistro also features a coffee bar serving a diverse selection of beverages. To accompany your drink or conclude your meal, you can choose from an array of specialty desserts like the carrot cake topped with cream cheese icing. 6. East Main Kitchen (Baltic, Ohio)
Best for: Steak lovers, breakfast, lunch and dinner, visitors who want scratch made comfort food with a creative twist
For this post, I asked people on Facebook to give me their rankings of the best restaurants in Amish Country. The vast majority of the people listed East Main Kitchen as one of their favorites. I have to agree.
You can find the East Main Kitchen in downtown Baltic. The restaurant was started by Crosspointe Church. They were looking for a way to have an influence on the community and they did that by opening up the restaurant.
The restaurant serves delicious, made from scratch comfort food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For breakfast, you can have a traditional omelet, as well as shrimp and grits, fried corn mush or stuffed french toast.
For lunch and dinner, you can order sandwiches, wraps, soup and salad, as well as specialty dishes. Some of their popular specialty dishes include grilled pork chops and fried buttermilk chicken.
If you love a great steak, you’ll want to try one of the numerous steak offerings that they have on the menu. All of the steaks are delicious and they are cooked on a Big Green Egg. East Main also has an espresso bar that serves specialty coffees and house made pastries with great Bubble tea.
I am partial to the roasted turkey breast dinner. You get thick slices of turkey that are always nice and juicy and seasoned just right.
East Main Kitchen is well worth the short drive from Sugarcreek to grab a bite to eat for any meal in the day.

7. Olde World Bistro & Bakery (Berlin, Ohio)
Best for: Lunch and dinner, gluten free diners, visitors looking for scratch made food with a creative menu in the Berlin area
The Olde World Bistro & Bakery was started by Mandy Beachy, who I went to high school with. Her husband, Keith, was one of my best friends in high school. It doesn’t make this list because of my ties to them but because of the great food they serve.
You can find Olde World Bistro on SR 39 just outside of Berlin. The bistro is right across the street from Hiland Junior/Senior High. They are open for both lunch and dinner.
At Olde World Bistro, the dishes that they make are made from scratch. Some of the great tasting dishes include: bacon wrapped meatloaf, an Olde World Reuben on house bread, Italian Grilled Cheese, Farmer’s Wife Salad, and Creamy Basil Tomato Soup to name just a few.
They also offer numerous appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, salads, pasta, sea food, main entrees, and various drink offerings. If you want something sweet to eat, you can order Apple Bread Pudding with bourbon sauce, strawberry cake and seasonal desserts.
These are just a few of the sweet treats that they offer. If you are someone who needs to eat gluten free, The Olde World Bistro and Bakery has various gluten free breads and desserts.
So, if you are in the Berlin area while visiting Amish Country the Olde World Bistro is well worth stopping in to get a delicious meal or sweet treat.

8. Amish Country Donuts (Sugarcreek, Ohio)
Best for: Sweet treat lovers, breakfast, a quick and unique stop, visitors who want something truly one of a kind
The first time that I was introduced to Amish Country Donuts was with their food truck every year at the Swiss Festival. They had the largest donuts that I have ever seen. They are as big as your head and they are made with sourdough and are very delicious.
So, a few years ago they bought the old Jim’s Sunoco gas station in Sugarcreek and converted it into a bakery and cafe. They still offer their signature sourdough glazed donuts along with blueberry scones, jumbo cinnamon rolls, speciality donuts, and energy bites.
The cafe is open from 7:00am to 2:00pm Monday through Saturday. The breakfast menu includes bowls, sandwiches and wraps. The lunch menu includes bowls, salads, sandwiches and wraps.
A few of the great dishes you’ll find on the menu include: a Donut Grilled Cheese; an Amarillo Wrap made with chicken, sauteed peppers/onions, and smoked cheddar: a BBQ Chicken Wrap, a Smokey Quinoa Bowl: and the Hey Porter Bowl, made with shredded potatoes, sausage, sauteed, onions/peppers, tomatoes, two scrambled eggs, mozzarella, house made sausage gravy, and house made southwest sauce.
If you want something sweet to eat, they have smoothies, milkshakes, malts and ice cream. You can also order drinks from their full espresso menu.
It doesn’t matter if you are looking for a sweet treat, a great drink, or a full meal. Amish Country Donuts is worth a stop when in Amish Country.

9. Mrs. Yoder’s Kitchen (Mt. Hope, Ohio)
Best for: The classic Amish buffet experience, broasted chicken lovers, families, lunch and dinner
Up front I want to say that Mrs. Yoder’s Kitchen holds a special place in my heart and it is not because of the food. Gloria Yoder, who started Mrs. Yoders, was a big contributor to Mt. Hope Elementary School where I taught for 29 years.
A few things that she did over the years was to give money to our school to buy Chromebooks for the students to use in school. She also would treat the 8th grade class to a free breakfast every year for graduation.
My feelings about this being one of the best restaurants in Amish Country Ohio is not influenced by my gratitude for what Mrs. Yoder did for the school.
Mrs. Yoders is open from 11:00am-7:00pm Monday through Saturday. Mrs. Yoders has a lunch and dinner buffet that you can enjoy.
A few of the items on the buffet include: mashed potatoes and gravy, broasted chicken, roast beef, stuffing, noodles, and meatloaf. On Friday the buffet also offers fish, shrimp and bbq ribs.
Mrs. Yoders also has a salad buffet that is included with your meal when you order the regular buffet. The salad buffet can be a side if you order a meal off the menu.
Besides the buffet, they also offer individual entrees that you can order off the menu, such as roasted turkey, salmon, and prime rib. They also offer sandwiches and wraps.
Their broasted chicken and roasted turkey are excellent and when it comes to desserts, I am partial to peanut butter pie and Mrs. Yoder’s has some really good peanut butter pie.

10. Bags Sports Pub (Sugarcreek and Millersburg, Ohio)
Best for: Sports fans, casual dining, groups, visitors who want great burgers and wings in a fun atmosphere
Bags Sports Pub is unique for this list since they have two locations that are in Amish Country. The original Bags is in the downtown area right on SR 39 in Millersburg. The second location is in downtown Sugarcreek on Main St.
The Millersburg location is bigger than the Sugarcreek location but it doesn’t matter which Bags location you go to, you are going to get a great meal in a welcoming sports bar environment.
On the menu, you’ll find appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches and wraps, burgers, and sides. Bags is known for their burgers, like the Bourbon Bacon Burger. They have great wings, fresh fish, steaks, ribs, and homemade sides like fresh cut fries.
Personally, I have never been disappointed when ordering one of their hamburgers and the fresh cut french fries. I am a simple man.
Bags also offers a wide range of local craft/microbrew beers, import beers, and local wines. In essence, Bags Sports Pub offers a satisfying mix of great food, cold drinks, and a fun sports environment at two different locations in the heart of Amish Country.
Bags Sports Pub and Bags Sports Pub both offer a casual place to grab burgers, wings, and pizza, but their hours vary slightly by location.

This is one of the most common questions visitors ask and it’s important to know before you plan your trip. Many restaurants in Amish Country are closed on Sundays due to religious observances. Hours and days open can also vary seasonally. I always recommend calling ahead or checking the restaurant’s Facebook page before making Sunday plans, as schedules can change throughout the year.
Most of the established restaurants on this list accept credit and debit cards, including Dutch Valley, Der Dutchman, and Mrs. Yoder’s Kitchen.
