Welcome back for part 2 of the best summer getaways in the U.S. Part 1 brought you places like Glacier National Park, San Diego, the Outer Banks and Zion National Park.
Part 2 will give you 10 more of the best summer getaways. Just like in the first part, you will get places to stay, things to do and places to eat while you are at a location.
No matter what you like to do or see, you will find a place that will be just what you are looking for on your next getaway.

Best Getaways in the US
1. Grand Canyon National Park
The Grand Canyon is one of the most awe inspiring places not just in the states but anywhere on the Earth. The canyon is 277 miles long, 18 miles wide and a mile deep. Every year approximately 5 million people come to the canyon to enjoy all that it has to offer.
If you want to be where more of the action is then you will want to stay on the South Rim of the park. You can stay on the North Rim if you want a more laid back feel.
While in the park, you can do as much or little as you want. You can go hiking, biking, take a helicopter ride or just soak in the scenery at the edge of the canyon.
Places to Stay
In the Park
El Tovar Hotel– The El Tovar is the most grand out of all the hotels that you can find in the park. It is located right on the South Rim.
Kachina Lodge– Kachina Lodge sits right on the South Rim and right beside the El Tovar Hotel. We stayed here when our family went to the park. The rooms were clean and comfortable. One of our rooms had a great view of the canyon and the other had a tree in front of it. We enjoyed our stay here.
Thunderbird Lodge– The lodge is located on the south rim. It is located near restaurants and shops that are on the south rim. The rooms have a modern feel to them.
Bright Angel Lodge and Cabins– The Lodge and Cabins are located on the south rim. You can step right outside the door of some of the cabins and be on the south rim trail.
Grand Canyon North Rim Lodge– This is the only hotel located on the north rim. You have great views of the canyon and you are close to many different things to do.
If you plan on staying in the park, during the summer season. You will want to book as early as you can. You can start booking a hotel in the park a year in advance.
So, if you want to book a room for the end of June of 2024. You can call to book a room June 1st of 2023.
Also, staying in the park is generally going to be more expensive than staying at a hotel outside of the park.
Outside of the Park
7 Mile Lodge– The lodge is located 2 miles from the south entrance of the Grand Canyon. They also offer a seasonal shuttle service into the park.
Best Western Premier Grand Canyon Squire Inn– The hotel is located near the south entrance. They offer regular rooms, suites and deluxe suites.
Clear Sky Resorts– If you want a unique experience, then you will want to try out the sky domes. Each dome has modern amenities and gives you a hammock and telescope for stargazing. The domes can accommodate 2, 4, 5, or 7 people.
Under Canvas Grand Canyon– If you want to glamp, then Under Canvas Grand Canyon is worth a try. They are located 25 minutes from the south entrance. There are king sized beds and ensuite bathrooms.
Things to Do
Hike the Trails– There are 130 different trails to choose from inside the park. You can choose from easy, moderate to challenging trials. You can click the link to see the top trails in the park.
Grand Canyon Skywalk– You can walk on the horseshoe shaped bridge that has a glass bottom. The bridge hangs out over the canyon. You can look down 4,000 feet to the floor of the canyon.
45 Minute Helicopter Ride– This helicopter ride gives you a view of the canyon that you can’t get by walking or driving around. There are wrap-around windows to help you see easily.
Grand Canyon IMax Theater– The theater is located just outside of the park in Tusayan. A new film titled “Grand Canyon: Rivers of Time” shows on the hour.
Grand Canyon Railway– The vintage train travels through beautiful plains and canyons. You will be entertained along the way. There are coach and first class seats to pick from.
Grand Canyon Signature Hummer Tour– You will ride in an open air Hummer that allows you to get plenty of great photos. The guide will give you the history of the area as you travel along.
Hermit Road– You can hike, bike or take a bus on this 7 mile stretch of road. There are 9 designated viewpoints to stop at and take in the canyon. The road ends at Hermit Rest which has a gift shop and snack bar. Cars aren’t allowed on the road from March 1st to November 30th.
Mule Ride– On the north rim, you can take a mule ride that goes around the rim of the canyon. Click the link to learn more. On the south rim, you can take a mule ride into the canyon floor. You can also stay overnight. Click the link to learn more.

In the Park
Maswik Food Court– The food court is within walking distance from the south rim. They have a variety of places to choose from.
Fred Harvey Burger– The restaurant is located at Bright Angel Lodge. It is a casual dining restaurant that offers American fare.
Arizona Steakhouse– The steakhouse is located at Bright Angel Lodge. They are open for lunch and dinner. Besides steaks they offer seafood and chicken.
Food Trucks– The south rim has two different food trucks that can be found at different locations. They offer fast casual food.
Bright Angels Bicycle and Cafe– The cafe serves coffee, espressos, ready made sandwiches and burritos.
Outside the Park
Foodie Club– We ate here a number of times when we were at the park because many of the places in the park were closed because of Covid. The restaurant had a diner feel and the food was good.
Plaza Bonita– This restaurant is located in Tusayan. They offer southwestern and Mexican dishes. There are also vegetarian dishes available.
We Cook Pizza and Pasta– As you can imagine, they offer pizza and pasta on the menu. They also offer appetizers and wings.
Grand Canyon Chocolate Factory– If you are looking for something sweet to eat, then this is your place. They offer gourmet chocolate, gelato, and flavored popcorn.

2. Maui, Hawaii
Maui is known as the “Valley of the Isle” and it is the second largest of the Hawaiian Islands. More than 2 million people visit the island each year. The island is known for its beautiful beaches, spectacular rainforests and its excellent food.
There are many different things to see and do while you are on the island. You can drive the Hana Highway, visit Haleakala National Park, or relax on the many wonderful beaches.
My wife and I had part of our honeymoon in Maui. I am looking forward to going back sooner than later.
Places to Stay
Ka’anapali Beach Hotel– The hotel is located right on Ka’anapali Beach. The hotel has gone through a 75 million dollar renovation. You can get a regular or premium room.
Wailea Beach Resort Marriott– The resort is located right on the ocean. They offer spacious guest rooms and suites that have balconies or lanais.
Best Western Pioneer Inn– The hotel is located right in the heart of Lahaina. The hotel is decorated in the plantation style of the island but has modern amenities.
The Mauian Hotel on Napili Beach– The hotel is unique in the fact that the rooms don’t come with a phone, TV or stereos. You can go to their lounge to get your TV fix. They offer a free continental breakfast every morning.
Mana Kai Maui– The hotel is located steps away from Keawakapu Beach. It is located near the entrance of Wailea. You are close to restaurants, shops and tourist attractions.
The Ritz Carlton Maui Kapalua– This resort is located on the northwest shore of the island. The resort offers guest rooms, suites and residences. There are excellent ocean views.
Maui What a Wonderful World Bed & Breakfast– If a bed and breakfast is more your speed, then this is one of the best on the island. It is located in the town of Kihei. They also provide snorkeling gear when you stay there.
Things to Do
West Maui Mountain Waterfall and Ocean Tour via Horseback– The 2 hour horseback ride. It doesn’t matter what your skill level is. The guide will take you through the valley of the West Maui Mountains to the Pacific coast.
Go to the beach– There are many different beaches that you can go to and enjoy. A few of the best beaches include: Napili Beach, Ka’anapali Beach, Wailea Beach, Kapalua Beach, Makena Beach, Keawakapu Beach and Ulua Beach.
Hana Highway Road to Hana– The Hana Highway is one of the most famous roads in America. The 64 mile road is very windy and has over 50 different bridges. There are numerous places that you can pull off and explore. This is well worth doing.
8 Lines Jungle Zipline Tour on Maui- Eco Friendly– You will fly above the treetops on this zipline tour. This is an activity that you can do while on the Hana Highway. The tour is 2 hours long.
Molokini Crater Zodiac Adventure Snorkel and Turtle Cove Swim– You will be able to snorkel in the famous Molokini Crater with sea turtles and other fish. The tour is 4 hours long and comes with lunch. This is one activity that I wish Tonya and I would have done on our honeymoon.
Haleakala National Park– The national park is 30,000 acres large. You can hike, bike and camp in the park. It is also a great place to watch the sunrise and sunset.
West Maui and Molokai Special 45 Minute Helicopter Tour– This is an intimate experience since there are only 6 seats in the helicopter. You will see some of the more hidden beaches, cliffs and waterfalls on the tour.
Best Haleakala Downhill Self Guided Bike Tour– They drive you up the dormant Haleakala Volcano. You can then enjoy the views as you travel down the volcano at your own pace. It is a 4-5 hour adventure.
Places to Eat
Duke’s Beach House– The restaurant is an open air restaurant located right on the beach in Kaanapali. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner with ingredients that are locally sourced. They serve seafood and steaks.
Lahaina Grill– This is a fine dining restaurant and they have been voted the best restaurant in Hawaii 29 years in a row. They offer seafood and steaks.
Cool Cat Cafe– The cafe is located in Lahaina. They offer burgers, wraps, tacos, hot dogs, sandwiches and other typical cafe food. There are vegetarian dishes also available.
Miso Phat Sushi– The restaurant is located in the town of Kihei. By the title of their restaurant, you know that they offer sushi. It is some of the best on the island according to reviews.

Mama’s Fish House– This is one of the most popular restaurants on the island. They are booked out 4-6 months in advance. They are open for lunch and dinner. There are great views from the restaurant.
Nalu’s South Shore Grill– The restaurant offers American bar food. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner. They serve a great breakfast. Their lunch and dinner menus offer seafood, burgers and greens.
Monkeypod Kitchen– The restaurant is located in Wailea. The restaurant serves wood oven pizza, fish, cocktails, 36 different craft beers and cream pies.
808 Deli– The deli is located in the town of Kihei. They serve sandwiches, salads, paninis, and gourmet hot dogs. They also have a kid’s menu.
Bruddah Hutts BBQ Grill– If you drive to Hana, you will want to stop at this food truck that has a permanent spot. They offer various dishes with chicken, pork, fish, shrimp, vegetables and rice. There is outdoor seating under canopies that is available.
Lahaina Pizza Company– The restaurant serves Chicago deep dish style pizza. You can create your own and they have specialty pizzas that you can choose. The restaurant has great ocean views.

3. Hilton Head, South Carolina
Hilton Head is a 42 square mile barrier island off the coast of South Carolina. During the summer temperatures get into the 80s and 90s but the ocean is right in your backyard to take a dip in.
There are many different things to do while you are on the island. You can hit the beach, go golfing, bike, kayak, horseback ride, and fishing. On the island, you can stay in a hotel, at a resort, or summer rentals.
The island gives you the opportunity to just kick back and relax or you can be as active as you want with all that you can do.
Places to Stay
Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island– The resort is located on the beach which is just steps away. There are also lush gardens that you can enjoy on the property. They offer a variety of rooms and two restaurants on the property.
Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort– At the resort, you will find three separate pools with a splash zone for the kids. There is a 11 mile lagoon where you can kayak and canoe. You also have 4 different restaurants to choose from on the grounds.
Inn and Club at Harbour Town– If you want to be pampered then this is the place for you. The property is located on the 5,000 Sea Pines Resort. They offer 60 deluxe rooms that come with a personal butler.
Marriott’s SurfWatch– The hotel is an oceanfront hotel. They offer two and three bedroom villas. There are separate living and bedroom areas with full kitchens.
Beach House Resort– This is more of a budget friendly property. It is the only boutique hotel that is oceanfront on the island. They have an outdoor pool with private beach access.
Courtyard by Marriott Hilton Head Island– This is a mid range price option on the island. The hotel offers a rooftop pool and cabanas. It is also located close to a number of popular things to do on the island.
Palmera Inn and Suites– The hotel is located in the middle of the island. They have 156 suites with all of them having a full kitchen with granite countertops.
Things to Do
Hilton Head Island Dolphin Boat Cruise– Dolphins like the coast off of Hilton Head. You will have a great chance of seeing some dolphins and other sea life. There is a guide that will teach you along the way.
Parasailing Adventure– You will soar high above the coast of Hilton Head. They offer tandem and triple flight options. You can land on the back of the boat or in the water.
Daufuskie Island Guided History Tour– The island is only accessible by boat. You get round trip ferry tickets and the cost of getting from one attraction to another is covered. A guide will help you learn along the way.
Hilton Head Island Daytime Creek Cat Tour– If you are like me and didn’t know what a creek cat is let me tell you. They are small boats that allow you to go places a regular boat won’t allow you. You can cruise at your own pace around and on the island.
Hilton Head Pirate Ship Adventure Sail– This is a great activity for the kids. You will sail the Black Dagger pirate ship. The kids will get pirate lessons from the crew as well as costumes.
Visit a Park- There are a number of parks that you can go to on the island. A few of the more popular parks include: Folly Field Beach Park, Mitchelville Freedom Park, Driessen Beach Park, Jarvis Creek Park, and Shelter Cove Community Park.
Coastal Discovery Museum– The museum has 2,000 square feet of inside space to explore as well as 68 acres outside. You will learn about the history of the animals of the lowcountry.
Places to Eat
One Hot Mama’s American Grill– This is a bbq place that serves all of your typical bbq dishes and the kicker is that they are all good. You can eat at the restaurant or take it to go.
Stu’s SurfSide Subs– If you need to pick up something fast this sub shop is your ticket. They have numerous subs to pick from and they aren’t skimpy on the meats and toppings.
The Jazz Corner– The Jazz Corner is a restaurant and jazz club. You will find numerous seafood dishes, duck, pork and ribs on the menu. Reservations are recommended if you plan on going.
Michael Anthony’s Cucina Italiana– You will find all of your traditional Italian dishes at the restaurant. On TripAdvisor it is the highest rated Italian restaurant on the island.
GT International Cafe– Personally, I love a good cafe. This cafe has great ratings and offers your typical cafe food. People had high praise for the service.
Chez Georges Bistro & Bar– The bistro is located on the south end of the island. They serve traditional bistro dishes with fresh ingredients from the area. Reservations are accepted by the bistro.
4. Seattle, Washington
When I think of Seattle, one of the first things that I think about is rain. Summer is one of the best times to visit Seattle since during the summer they get the least amount of rain. Plus, their temperatures are the highest of the year.
In the Emerald City, there are many things to do. You can go to the top of the Space Needle, visit the first Starbucks, visit numerous museums and take a boat tour.
Plus, if you are into outdoor activities you take a short drive and go to Mt. Rainier National Park or Olympic National Park.
Places to Stay
Inn at the Market– This 76 room boutique overlooks Elliott Bay. It is the only downtown hotel that can be found in the famous Pike Place Market. It is close to much of the action.
Embassy Suites Seattle Downtown Pioneer Square– This downtown hotel offers regular rooms and two room suites. The hotel has a 24 hour restaurant and offers free breakfast. It is located near the transportation hub of the city.
Thompson Seattle– The downtown hotel is located near the Puget Sound which gives you great views of the sound. The hotel is located near Pike Place Market and the Space Needle.
Grand Hyatt Seattle– This hotel has 457 rooms and is located in the downtown area. Besides the regular rooms there are also 14 suites. From the hotel you have bay, mountain and downtown views.
Country Inn & Suites by Seattle/Tacoma Airport- This hotel is a cheaper option but still has high reviews. The hotel is located about 15 minutes from the downtown area. They offer a shuttle service to the airport to take the Link Light Rail into the city.
Archer Hotel Redmond– If staying in the downtown area is not your thing, then the Archer Hotel is a great option. The hotel is located in the suburb of Redmond in the Redmond Town Center.
The Heathman Hotel Kirkland– This is another great option that is outside the city center. The hotel is a boutique hotel. You are within walking distance of galleries, shops and Lake Washington.
Things to Do
Space Needle– What is more associated with Seattle than the Space Needle? An argument could be made for Starbucks but I digress. The tower is 605 feet and has a 360 degree view of the city and even has a glass floor.
Chihuly Garden and Glass– This museum is located right beside the Space Needle. It features 8 galleries inside of colorful glass blown creations of Dale Chihuly. There are also gardens on the outside to enjoy.
Space Needle/Chihuly Garden and Glass Combo Ticket– If you plan on going to both of the places, this combo ticket can save you money versus buying the tickets separately.
Pike Place Market– This is one of the most famous markets in the United States. The market is in the heart of downtown and covers 9 acres. You can find over 220 independently owned shops and restaurants.
The Museum of Flight– If you are into planes and spacecraft then this is the place for you. It is the largest independently owned nonprofit air and space museum in the world. You will see 170 planes and spacecraft in the museum.
Visit a Park– The city has many different parks to enjoy. A few that you may want to take a look at include: Kerry Park, Green Lake Park, Gas Works Park and Discovery Park.
Chef Guided Tour of Pike Place Market– This two hour tour will take you through the best eats that Pike Place Market has to offer. You will enjoy 12 different places on the tour.
Washington Park Arboretum– The arboretum is 230 acres. You can explore the 4,000 species of plants by walking or taking a canoe through it.
Half Day Guided Tour of Seattle City and Snoqualmie Falls– On this tour, you will see many of the top attractions in the city. You will then go to Snoqualmie Falls. Finally, there is a stop at the Fremont Troll.
Seattle Harbor Cruise– This cruise will give you a different perspective of the city from the harbor. There are two decks on the boat to sit down and take in the city and surrounding area.
Beneath the Streets Underground History Tour– This one hour tour takes you under the streets in the Pioneer Square area. You will see how under the streets looked from the 1890s.
Other Things to Do– Some other things to see and do include: Pioneer Square, Seattle Great Wheel, Fremont Troll, and the Gum Wall.
Places to Eat
Pizzeria Credo– This is one of the highest rated pizzerias in the city. Besides pizza, they offer salads, appetizers, and pasta.
The Pink Door– This Italian restaurant is located near Pike Place Market. They serve traditional Italian dishes for lunch and dinner.
One Authentic Hawaiian Poke– The restaurant is located in the suburb of Redmond. They serve Hawaiian Poke and Poke bowls.
Flint Creek Cattle Company– At Flint Creek Cattle Company, they serve meat that has been locally sourced. Besides beef, they also serve duck, fish, lamb and pasta.
Tilikum Place Cafe– The cafe is a European style bistro and bar that has a seasonal menu. They serve various dishes, entrees and desserts.
Bacco Cafe– I have mentioned before that I love a good cafe so I had to put one on this list for Seattle. This cafe serves traditional American cafe meals and comes with high reviews.
RockCreek Seafood and Spirits– The restaurant is located in the neighborhood of Fremont in Seattle. Their menu sources seafood locally and from all over the world.
Market Grill– The grill can be found in Pike Place Market. The counter service restaurant is known for the salmon sandwiches but they offer all kinds of seafood. There is an outside seating area.
5. Portland, Maine
Portland is Maine’s largest city with a small town feel. There are 69,000 people that live in the city. It is located on a peninsula on the coast of Maine that extends into the Casco Bay.
In the Old Port district in the city you can go shopping, eat at great restaurants and walk the cobblestone streets. The city also has a vibrant art scene, a beautiful harbor to enjoy, a dedication to preservation and excellent restaurants to eat at.
While in Portland, you can go see lighthouses on the coast and enjoy yourself at some of the beaches around the city. Even with the small size of the city there are things to do no matter what age you are.
Places to Stay
Canopy by Hilton Portland Waterfront– The hotel is located right around the waterfront and is four blocks from downtown. You can explore the neighborhood with complimentary canopy bikes.
Courtyard by Marriott Portland Downtown Waterfront– The hotel is located in the heart of downtown and close to numerous attractions, such as, Old Port and Cross Insurance Arena.
Embassy Suites Portland– This hotel is located adjacent to the Portland International Jetport and 5 miles from Old Port. The hotel offers regular rooms as well as suites with two rooms.
The Press Hotel Autograph Collection– The hotel is located in the downtown area and is near shops and restaurants. They offer a free shuttle to the airport.
Portland Regency Hotel and Spa– The hotel is located in the Old Port area of the city. They have an onsite fitness room, steam room and hot tub. There is also an on site restaurant.
The West End Inn– If you like bed and breakfast, the West End Inn will be a great fit. The inn is located .7 a mile from Casco Bay and within walking distance to shops and restaurants.
Inn at St John Portland In-Town– This is a lower price option but still has a very good rating. It is a Victorian style inn and they offer a continental breakfast every morning.
Things to Do
Old Port– The heart of Portland is the Old Port neighborhood. The area is bustling especially in the summer. You will find restaurants, bars, shops and about anything else you want. We were there a few years ago and it is worth your time.
The Real Portland Tour City and 3 Lighthouses– This tour takes around 2 hours to complete. A local guide will take you to see some of the biggest sites in Portland. You will also learn history along the way.
Old Port Culinary Tour– This tour will take you through the Old Port area. A local guide will take you to 7 of the best spots in the neighborhood. The guide will also share about the Portland food scene along the way.
Sunset Sea Kayak Tour of Cisco Bay– My wife, daughter Cassidy and myself did this when we were in Portland. Besides getting a workout trying to steer a two seat kayak, it was fun. The guide that we had was very enjoyable. We were able to see some seals and other wildlife.
First Round Draught Brewery Bus– The tour takes place during brunch time. You will visit 3 different breweries and try some of their different beers. You will also get a breakfast themed hand pie to eat.
Portland Museum of Art– The museum is the oldest and largest public art institution in Maine. You can find the museum in the downtown art district in the city.
Downtown Portland Maine City and Lighthouse Tour– On this 2.5 hour tour, you will see sights in the city from a local guide. You will also visit two local lighthouses.
Children’s Museum and Theater of Maine– This is an activity geared towards the kids. The building housing the museum and theater is 30,000 square feet. There are interactive exhibits, a theater and STEM exhibits spanning three floors.
Places to Eat
Porthole Restaurant and Pub– We ate here when we were in Portland. They offer all kinds of seafood and other dishes but we got the lobster. The waiter was nice enough to give us a crash course on how to eat them. The lobster and other food was great.
Fore Street Restaurant– This restaurant is located one block from the waterfront. They change their menu everyday at this restaurant. It all depends on what the farmers, fisherman and foragers bring them every day.
Becky’s Diner– The diner is located on the waterfront. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. They serve all kinds of seafood including lobster omlettes for breakfast.
Duckfat– The restaurant is a sandwich shop. They have a variety of things that they serve. You can get paninis, soups, salads, and sandwiches. The restaurant is best know for their Belgian fries that are fried in duck fat.
Scales Restaurant– The restaurant is located right on the wharf. They serve seafood, meats, sandwiches, soups and salads. They do accept reservations two months out.
Isa Bistro– This is a cozy neighborhood bistro that serves an eclectic menu that is seasonal. You will be able to order seafood, meats, salads and Italian dishes. They accept reservations a month out.
Otto Pizza– At this local pizza shop, you will not only be able to order pizza but they also offer salads, desserts, a kid’s menu and vegan options.

6. Boston, Massachusetts
Boston, better known as Beantown, has played a major role in the history of the United States. You can visit numerous places around the city pertaining to events that helped start our great country. You can see Paul Revere’s house, Old North Church, and the Boston Harbor to name a few of the places.
Boston isn’t stuck in the past though. There are many other things that you can enjoy that have a modern flare. You can go to the Museum of Fine Arts, the New England Aquarium and Fenway Park to take in a game.
It doesn’t matter what age that you are or what your interests are Boston is going to have a little something for everyone during the summertime. Plus, it’s only a few hours from coastal towns like Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.
Places to Stay
The Verb Hotel– This hotel is located near Fenway Park. This boutique hotel has a music vibe to it. You are also close to many other attractions that are popular in the city. The hotel also has an onsite restaurant.
Seaport Hotel– The hotel is located on the waterfront. There are a variety of restaurants and attractions located in walking distance from the hotel. You get city and harbor views from the hotel.
The Newbury Boston– The hotel is located in the Back Bay area. They offer guest rooms and suites. There is an onsite restaurant and some rooms come with a park view.
Harbor Light Inn– This boutique inn is located in the historic Marblehead town center. You have easy access to the beach, shopping, art galleries, historic homes and restaurants.
Hilton Garden Inn Logan Airport– You are within a mile of Logan Airport and minutes from downtown when you stay at the hotel. They offer free 24 hour shuttle service to the airport and subway station.
Homewood Suites Boston/Peabody– This hotel is out of the city center so it is a more budget friendly option. The hotel is located near I-95. It is about a 25 minute drive into downtown Boston.
Hilton Garden Inn Boston/Canton– This is another hotel that is highly rated but outside the city center. So, you are getting good value for the price of the hotel. The hotel is 30 minutes from the downtown area.
A Village Bed and Breakfast– This bed and breakfast is a short 20 minute drive from downtown Boston. It is located in Newton Highlands. There are 3 different rooms to choose from. It was rated the number one bed and breakfast on TripAdvisor.
Things to Do
Visit a Museum– There are a number of popular museums to checkout. You can go to the Museum of Fine Arts, John F. Kennedy Presidential Museum and Library, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum and Museum of Science.
Boston’s North End Walking Tour– This 2 hour tour will take you through the narrow streets of Boston’s North End in the Italian District. The guide will take you to some off the beaten restaurants and bakeries.
Boston City View Bicycle Tour– On this 2.5 hour tour, you will see Fenway Park, Boston Common and Trinity Church. Along the way, you will learn about the history of the city.
Boston Hop on Hop Trolley Tour with 14 Stops– You have the option to hop on and hop off any of the stops along the way. If you don’t want to do that, you can stay on the loop and enjoy the sites from the trolley.
Boston Duck Boat City Sightseeing Tour Along Charles River– The tour will travel on the land and the water as you see some of the different neighborhoods in the city. You will ride in a piece of military history while on the tour.
Tour of Fenway Park– If you are a baseball fan this will be the tour for you. On the one hour tour, you will get to see different aspects of the stadium like the Green Monster and Pesky’s Pole.
Sip of Boston Guided Brewery Tour– This tour is 3.5 hours long. You will learn about some of the history of the city. You will visit 3 different breweries with a total of 12 tastings altogether. At the different places, you will learn about the history of the brewery.
Boston City Pass– If you are going to visit a number of different attractions in the city, the City Pass is a great way to save some money to see them. It is also convenient since you don’t have to wait in line when you go to the different attractions.
See Popular Boston Sites– Go see places like Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Boston Public Library, Freedom Trail, USS Constitution, and Beacon Hill.

Cafe Bonjour– The moderately priced cafe serves breakfast and lunch. They serve a variety of different dishes, such as crepes, sandwiches, wraps, breakfast classics, burgers and more.
Theo’s Cozy Corner Restaurant– The restaurant serves American and Italian dishes for breakfast and lunch. They also offer vegetarian and vegan options.
Mario’s Restaurant– This is a casual Italian restaurant. They serve traditional Italian dishes like spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, tiramisu and other dishes.
Ostra– Ostra is a Mediterranean fine dining seafood restaurant that is located in Boston’s Back Bay area. The menu offers a mix of American and Mediterranean seafood dishes.
Galleria Umberto– This pizza place has a small area to eat in the restaurant. They are unique in the fact that they only take cash and once they are sold out for the day they shut down.
The Q Restaurant– The Q restaurant is a restaurant that serves Chinese, Japanese and Thai food. Their specialty dish is the Mongolian Hot Pot.
Grill 23 & Bar– This high end steakhouse has ornate rooms to enjoy your meal. They offer surf n turf classics and they have a large wine selection.
7. Great Smoky Mountains National Park
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is more than 520,000 acres and borders the states of North Carolina and Tennessee. It is the most visited national park every year with over 14,000,000 people visiting the park in 2021.
The park is one of the only national parks that doesn’t charge an admission fee. In the park, you can enjoy walking its many trails, seeing beautiful waterfalls, taking scenic drives and seeing many different animals.
Places to Stay
Stonebrook Lodge– The lodge is located in Cherokee, NC and is only 3.5 miles from the entrance of the park. The hotel is located near other local attractions.
Arbors at Island Landing Hotel & Suites– This hotel is located 20 minutes from the park. The hotel offers regular hotel rooms and suites. There is a free breakfast at a restaurant by the hotel.
Berry Springs Lodge– The lodge is located a 15 minute drive from the park. There is onsite fishing, hiking and a 3 course breakfast every morning. You are also close to Dollywood and Gatlinburg.
Margaritaville Island Hotel– This hotel is located in Pigeon Forge and is a 20 minute drive from the park. You can choose rooms with balconies, whirlpools and they also offer suites.
Rivers Edge Motel– The hotel is located in the town of Cherokee. All rooms have a balcony and offer a view of the Oconaluftee River.
Gatlinburg Inn– The inn is located in the heart of Gatlinburg. You are just steps away from shopping, restaurants and attractions. The Great Smoky Mountain National Park is just minutes away.
The Inn on the River– This hotel is located on the Little Pigeon River in Pigeon Forge. There are great views of the Smoky Mountains. The hotel offers indoor and outdoor swimming pools. There are also different styles of rooms to choose from.

Hike the Park– There are 150 known trails in the park. Some of the more popular trails include: Grotto Falls Trail, Abrams Falls Trail, Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, Chimney Tops Trail, Rainbow Falls Trail, and Alum Cave Trail.
Things to See in the Park– There are many different things to see while in the park. Here are a few that you won’t want to miss. Cades Cove, Newfound Gap Road, Mount LeConte, Foothills Parkway, Sugarlands Visitor Center and Clingman’s Dome.
Exciting Upper Smoky Mountains Rafting Trip– This whitewater rafting trip will take you through the Great Smoky Mountain and Cherokee State Park. Your blood will get pumping on category III and IV rapids.
Thundering Streams and Falls of the Smokies Guided Hiking Tours– Your guide on this 3 hour tour will take you to see streams, cascades and creeks. The hike is a little more adventurous in nature. You will have to go over fallen trees and the like.
Waterfalls and Breweries Tour from Bryson City, NC– This full day excursion will take you to 4 different waterfalls and 5 different breweries in the area.
Overnight Backpacking in the Smokies– If you like to backpack and be outdoors, this will be for you. On the tour you will travel through the Great Smoky National Park. You will see woodlands, mountain valleys and cascades.

Log Cabin Pancake House– The Pancake House is located in Gatlinburg. They serve breakfast all day long. For breakfast they serve pancakes, crepes, and french toast. They also serve burgers and sandwiches.
The Peddler Steakhouse– This restaurant is located in Gatlinburg. They offer steaks, chicken, trout and a salad bar.
The Bistro at the Everett Hotel– The bistro offers service to people who don’t stay at the hotel. You can make a reservation up to a week ahead. They source their food from the area around Bryson City.
La Poblana– This Mexican restaurant that is located in Bryson City has the standard Mexican fare. They are highly rated and have excellent food.
Blue Moose Burgers and Wings– If you want a place to watch a game while on vacation, then this is the place for you. They offer burgers, wings, sandwiches and salads.
Pigeon Forge Deli– This is a highly rated deli that offers sub rolls, soups, pretzels, pot roast, chicken salad and more. Everything is made from scratch.
Chesapeake’s Seafood and Raw Bar– The nautical themed restaurant offers fresh seafood that is flown into the restaurant each day. They also serve microbrews and USDA grade beef.
8. Anchorage, Alaska
Anchorage is the largest city in the state of Alaska with 40% of the state’s population living in the city. Summertime is a great time to visit the city. The city has museums, shops, and a wonderful zoo.
If nature is what you like, there is plenty of that to experience in the city limits. You can visit the City of Lights and Flowers during the summertime or take walks or bike on their many trails.
If you go to Anchorage between early June and early July, you can explore and enjoy all that the city and surrounding area has to offer since the sun doesn’t truly set.

Hyatt Place Anchorage Midtown– The hotel is located in the midtown area near Sullivan Arena. They offer a free hot breakfast and are a pet friendly hotel.
Embassy Suites Anchorage– The hotel is located near the Alaska Center for Performing Arts and a number of other tourist attractions. All the rooms in the hotel are suites and come with ample space to relax.
SpringHill Suites Anchorage Midtown– The hotel has been recently renovated and the downtown area is just north of the hotel. There you can find restaurants and shops.
Aspen Suites Hotel Anchorage– The hotel is in the heart of Anchorage and is near a number of tourist attractions. There are 92 different rooms to choose from at the hotel.
The Hotel Captain Cook– The hotel is located in downtown Anchorage. You will find 4 restaurants, a conference center, 15 retail stores and spacious rooms. Great views of Chugach Mountains or Cook Inlet can be seen from the rooms.
Residence Inn by Anchorage Midtown– The hotel has recently been renovated. You can choose from regular rooms and suites for extended days. You are near the heart of the action while at the hotel.
Hyatt House Anchorage– The hotel is located in the Midtown of the city. There are 144 guestrooms with some of them being studio rooms. The hotel offers free shuttle service to the airport.
Things to Do
Anchorage Trolley’s Deluxe City Tour– On this 1.5 hour tour, you see some of the major sites of the city and learn about the history of Anchorage at the same time.
Wilderness Wildlife Glacier Experience– This tour will take you to Chugach National Forest, Beluga Point, Portage Glacier and more. Some of the wildlife you will see include brown bears, wolves and bison.
Alaska Railroad Anchorage to Seward Round Trip– You will travel to Seward from Anchorage on this all day trip. On the ride to Seward, you will be able to see the Chugach Mountains, canyons, glaciers, waterfalls and plenty of wildlife.
Alyeska Aerial Tram– You get on the tram at the Alyeska hotel. It takes the tram 3-7 minutes to climb 2,300 feet up to the top of Alyeska Mountain. You have great views from the top of the mountain.
Nature Attractions in the area– There are numerous things to do and attractions to see in nature around Anchorage. A few of them that you can checkout include: Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, Portage Glacier, Flattop Mountain Trail, Chugach State Park, Cook Inlet and Eagle River Nature Center.
Glaciers and Wildlife: Day Tour from Anchorage– You get to relax and kickback while someone else does the driving. Along the way, you will stop at various locations and see and learn about wildlife along the way.
Alaska Native Heritage Center– At the center, you will learn about the 5 different indigenous groups in the Anchorage area. Native culture is shown through dance, storytelling and craft making.
Grand Knik Helicopter Tour– This tour is an hour out of the city. You will take a helicopter ride between 2-3 hours. They will take you to see spectacular nature and then land on the Knik glacier which you can explore.

Moose’s Tooth Pub and Pizzeria– The restaurant serves pizza, salads, soups, appetizers, and desserts. They are well known for their different beers and wine, also.
Jen’s Restaurant– Jen’s Restaurant is a fine dining restaurant. They change their menu to take advantage of seasonal ingredients. Their dinner menu includes different meat dishes and pasta.
Kincaid Grill and Wine Bar– The restaurant is located in a small quiet neighborhood in Anchorage. They use seasonal flavors to make the dishes that they serve.
Snow City Cafe– The diner is open for breakfast and lunch. They serve smoothies, numerous egg dishes, oatmeal, pancakes, french toast and other of your favorite diner dishes.
Double Musky Inn– The restaurant is located just outside of Anchorage in Girdwood. They serve steaks and seafood with seasonings that are geared towards a New Orleans flavor.
Glacier Brewhouse– The restaurant is open for brunch, lunch and dinner. They are known for their Alaskan seafood, rotisserie roasted meats and their ales.
F Street Station– The bar and grill serves American style dishes from local seafood to steaks and more. You can dine in and they also have take out available.

9. Siesta Key, Florida
Siesta Key is located in the eastern part of Florida on the Gulf Coast. It is a short drive from Sarasota to the 8 mile long barrier island. Siesta Key Beach has been named the best beach in the U.S. on a number of occasions. On the island there are shops, restaurants and nightlife to enjoy.
You can pretty well find something for everyone when you go to Siesta Key. There are many things to do for families, couples who want a romantic getaway, and for people who love to do outdoor activities.
Places to Stay
Hyatt Residence Club Sarasota, Siesta Key Beach– The hotel is located in Sarasota and is a short drive to Siesta Key and Siesta Key Beach. The hotel is also close to the art and cultural hub.
Tropical Beach Resorts– You only have a 5 minute walk from the resort to get to the beach. A kitchenette and housekeeping services are included with each room.
Hampton Inn & Suites Bradeenton/Sarasota Airport– The hotel offers guest rooms and suites. It is a short drive from the hotel to Siesta Key and Siesta Key Beach. They have a free breakfast every morning.
Carlisle Inn Sarasota– You can get standard and deluxe rooms at the hotel. The deluxe rooms come with a kitchenette, dishwasher, a stovetop and microwave. A free hot breakfast is available every morning.
Hyatt Place Sarasota/Bradenton– My daughter and I stayed at this hotel. It is located directly across from the Sarasota/Bradenton airport. The standard room was a nice size. They had a good warm breakfast and it is a 25-30 minute drive to Siesta Key.
Siesta Palms by the Beach– The hotel is located 1,300 feet from the beach. There is private access to the beach from the hotel. This is a condo hotel that is located in Sarasota.
The Sea Spray Resort– The hotel is located just a 2 minute walk to Siesta Key Beach. It is a great location for the beach and other things that are in the area.
Tru by Hilton Bradenton I-75– My daughter and I stayed at this hotel. It is a little more budget friendly option compared to some of the other hotels. The room was very nice and big. They had a nice pool area and a good breakfast in the morning.
Things to Do
Siesta Key Beach– You can soak up the sun and kick back and relax on the white sand beach. If you have kids, there are lifeguards who are on duty to help keep an eye on them.
Siesta Key Electric Bike Sunset Tour– On this tour, you get the joy of being on a bike without worrying about putting the effort in. You ride along the shoreline and the length of Siesta Beach.
Siesta Key Kayak Tour– You can choose between a kayak or stand up paddle board when you go on this tour. The guide will take you through the Jim Neville Marine Preserve. This tour is around 2 hours in length.
Parasailing Adventure above the Gulf of Mexico– You will glide above the Gulf of Mexico on this one hour parasailing adventure. The boat will take you out towards Anna Maria Island.
Downtown Walking Food Tour Sarasota– On this food tour, you will go to 5 different restaurants in the Sarasota area. You will also learn about Sarasota’s unique culture and culinary offerings.
Kayak and Paddleboard Rental– If you don’t want to go on a tour with a kayak or paddleboard, you can rent one to enjoy the waters of Siesta Key.
Half Day Private Sarasota Charter Tour with Wildlife Watching– You can pick between morning and afternoon start times with this tour. You will more than likely see dolphins and manatees while on the tour.

The Cottage– The Cottage serves American bar food. It is a place where you can get standard dishes while they have put their flair on other dishes.You can get soups, salads, sandwiches, and tapas.
Meany’s Mini Donuts– Who doesn’t like donuts? You will be able to find a type of donut that fits your needs. This is one of the highest rated places in Siesta Key.
Sun Garden Cafe– The restaurant has been voted the best place for breakfast, lunch and outdoor dining. You will find the standard cafe style dishes for both lunch and dinner.
Siesta Key Summer House Steak & Seafood– At this steakhouse, you can get a great steak, seafood and soup and salad. They also have a nice wine selection.
Olaf’s Siesta Village– You need to get some ice cream when you are at the beach. Besides ice cream cones, you can get smoothies, sundaes, milkshakes, malts and fudge.
Big Water Fish Market– This restaurant is located near the south bridge in Siesta Key. The restaurant is a boutique style restaurant that serves large portions of fresh seafood.
Miguel’s Restaurant– If you want a more of a fine dining experience, then Miguels is a great choice. They offer French and continental style dishes.
Made in Rome Organic Gelato– If you don’t like ice cream but you are more into gelato, this is a great place to try. They offer a large variety of flavors and many different toppings.
10. Estes Park, Colorado
Estes Park is a town of just under 6,000 people in northern Colorado. It is 70 miles north of Denver. The town is known for being the starting point to explore The Rocky Mountain National Park. You are surrounded by the Rocky Mountains on all sides when you are in the town.
If you enjoy being outside, Estes Park should be high on your list of places to go. Besides adventuring into Rocky Mountain National Park you can fish, horseback ride, white water raft, golf or even take scenic drives along the continental divide.
Places to Stay
Stonebrook Resort– This is an all adult resort. All of the rooms include a kitchenette and dining area. Some rooms offer mountain or river views. Those rooms come with balconies.
Blue Door Inn– The inn is located 4 miles from the entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park. They have a seasonal outdoor pool, basketball court and bbq facilities.
Quality Inn Near Rocky Mountain National Park– The hotel is close to Rocky Mountain National Park. It is also close to other activities like fishing, hiking, boating, horseback riding and golfing.
4 Seasons Inn on Fall River– The hotel is located on the Fall River. They have an expansive sun terrace and hot tub. Some of the rooms have a nice river view.
The Historic Crag’s Lodge– At the lodge, you are near all of the major activities in the Estes Park area. The rooms have a seating area, kitchenette, refrigerator and dining area.
The Woodlands on Fall River– This hotel is located near the river and has mountain views at the same time. The rooms are one and two bedroom suites. It is 2 miles to Rocky Mountain National Park.
River Stone Resorts and Bear Paw Suites– These riverfront condos come in 1, 2, or 3 bedroom units. The rooms have a cabin feel to them. They also have jetted tubs or private hot tubs, as well as gas fireplaces and grills.
Silver Moon Inn– The inn is located on the Fall River. It is just minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park and other popular activities in the area.
Things to Do
Rocky Mountain National Park– As mentioned before, the park is at the doorstep of Rocky Mountain National Park. You can do many things in the park while staying in Estes Park.
Riverwalk in Downtown Estes Park– The riverwalk starts at the visitors center and follows along the Fall and Big Thompson Rivers. You can stop and get something to eat or shop in the downtown area.
Lake Estes Marina– At the marina you can rent kayaks, boats, canoes, bikes, and pedal carts. They also have a pavilion area to rent and enjoy.
National Park Gateway Stables– They offer rides at the stables from 2 hours all the way up to a full day. There is even a ride that offers dinner. They do offer pony rides for kids.
Open Air Adventure Park– The adventure park offers an aerial adventure where you can challenge yourself for 90 minutes. They have a kayaking tour that takes place during sunset. You can also do some ax throwing at the park.
Peak to Peak Scenic Byway– The scenic byway is a 55 mile stretch of road that extends from Estes Park to I-70. There are numerous stops along the way to get out and enjoy.
Estes Park Memorial Observatory– The observatory is run by volunteers who are trying to promote science education in the community.
Rapid Transit Rafting– The rafting company offers ½ day and full rafting trips. They will also pick you up in Estes Park.
Mustang Mountain Coaster– If you want to have a little more adventure, you can ride this mountain coaster. They offer 1 and 3 ride passes.
Places to Eat
The Egg of Estes– This is an independent diner that serves traditional breakfast and lunch dishes.
Bird and Jim– The restaurant is one of the more upscale restaurants in Estes Park. They get most of their food from local sources and offer seasonal dishes.
Antonio’s Real New York Pizza– Antonio is a guy who lived in New York most of his life before moving to Estes Park. The restaurant serves Neopolitian and Sicilian style pizzas.
The Rock Inn Mountain Tavern– On the menu, you will find pasta, pizza, sandwiches, salads and entrees. They also have live music to enjoy while you are eating.
Twin Owls Steakhouse– This steakhouse is located at the Taharaa Mountain Lodge. The restaurant offers appetizers, soups, salads, steaks, chicken and seafood.
Notchtop Bakery and Cafe– You have a nice view of Rocky Mountain National Park while at the restaurant. All of their dishes are served from scratch. You can also get your food to go.
SEASONED an American Bistro– The bistro serves food that has been sourced from around the Estes area. Their menu changes with the seasons.
